It is important to learn from the lessons life teaches us. Although trained in food engineering, unexpected circumstances led me to a job as a waiter after finishing school. After several weeks at the restaurant, I spilled a drink on a customer who was also the owner’s close friend. After cleaning the mess and apologizing profusely, I returned to the office expecting to turn in my resignation. Surprisingly, in a supportive tone the owner simply stated, “It may be bad to make mistakes, but it is worse not learn from them.” His words were resounding and stuck with me ever since. I continued to work in his restaurant for four years, cultivating an excellent relationship and long-lasting friendship.
