Far from my homeland studying my passion, I encountered a slight rough patch which left me unemployed, potentially dropping out of school, and abandoning years of hard work. Arriving at school one day, I saw my best friend whose uplifting personality was desperately welcomed. Patting me on the back, he said a few encouraging words knowing I had a practical test with the dreaded Thai Cuisine professor that afternoon. The day passed quickly and the time of the test finally arrived. The scary Thai teacher who didn’t even reach five feet in height was waiting in the kitchen classroom. Known as one of the most demanding faculty members in the school, her penetrating stare and unforgettable grin were intimidating. I was well prepared for the test but I never imagined I would receive a Cum Laude as well as some very kind words from whom I least expected: my terrifying Thai Cuisine teacher.
